Here is what I've learned from RPGs.

1) Money is precious, especially in the beginning, so only spend money as an investment on stuff that helps you do the job better or that helps get you through the day. Of course, you can spend some money on the occasionaly "Minigame", or else you will get bored.
2) Specialize, Specialize, Specialize. Hopefully you can find party members with other skills, so you have a group of kick-butt experts.
3) If you want to play the game and explore all the options, you might want to try it with higher charisma and higher intellegence.
4) Don't piss off the authorities.
5) It is sad if your friends die, but when you die, it is GAME OVER. XP
6) Take your time, or else you will get to the end of the game before you are ready.
7) Your alignment doesn't define who you are, it is what you do when the occasion comes up.
