Normally, I would say that any perspective commands its own respect. However, cynicism is not one that works. Why? Because cynicism doesn't work, instead of being a way of looking things, when uncontrolled, it becomes a consuming overcast, and dominates all other good sense and judgement.

You see, cynicism doesn't work because a cynic is one who distrusts those who claim to be "good" and "ideological". A cynic is one convinced of his own ideological wholesomeness, and is disillusioned by the fact that those that others trust also have alterior motives. So far, cynicism is all good. However, the cynicism greatly impedes seeing anything in a different perspective, because if one counters cynicism with cynicism, the cynic will be abhorred and disgusted with the callousness of the counter attacker. Therefore, there is no way for true cynicism to accept any part of any other view. That and the fact that cynicism often leads to belief in one's own moral superiority, or at least his own interpretation of morals, make it much like a religion.
