about a year ago, my dad and I picked up a boat (10 foot long, sail boat. I believed it's called an "el toro") that was heading to the dump, for no reason other than to fix it.
We tried, and failed. And it's been sitting in our backyard for the last...11 months.
My dad said it was too depressing, so we went back to it.
It's basically fix now, we got better at it. It's the experience that counts, no? I mean, who else can say, "my dad and I picked up a boat, and fixed it"? Plus, now I've learned a few things since then.
1) How to use Fiberglass. (to contruct things, or fix holes.)
2) Back in the day, they used to use bronze nails for boats.
3) When wood rots, you're pretty damn screwed. (for a boat this small, we should have just built a new one)
4) Thickness of wood really makes a difference when you are trying to bend it.
So, now during summer, my dad is probably gonna wanna try to sail it. This is a SMALL boat, it can hold 2 people, but is compromised with over 300 pounds inside it. (me: 145~155, my dad: 155?)
With the work we've done on it, it can probably last another...2~3 years? Anyways, I named it. I was gonna name it frankenstein, since it was almost buried, and we patched it up with makeshift parts (not exactly a comely job). But, instead, I'm gonna name it "Shelly". Cause Shelly could be a boat name, and Mary Shelly wrote frankenstein.
