More thinking!
Jul. 8th, 2004 10:00 pmSo, in a conversation with Lj-user Adebrettski. I was suddenly inspired to think again.
He convinced me that democracy wasn't as bad as I implied it to be. And I do believe he is correct, in some ways. You see, I don't have a large problem with official democracy, it's the unformal democracy that gets me...( Read more... )
HOWEVER. I also thought of something else. Often times, the great democratic U.S.A. makes stupid decisions. And voters instead on voting on the best decisions, vote on the most appealing one. Because all they have are bias judgements made off of which media they saw more of, which can lead to, well, bad decisions. I think that voters, instead of being able to vote when they are 18, should instead be required to take a voter's qualifying test.
This test should have 2 parts. 1)A raw fact part. This part is just raw, unbias, standing random political information. They don't have to ace it, but they must show a "vocabulary" of current events and a lil history.
2) Analysis skills. A none political document based essay (or any other testing method that shows analysis skills). This way, it is unbias, because they are not being graded on anything political here, but only their analytical skills, and therefore displaying how well they can use their "vocab of events and history" to make their own judgements and decisions based upon those judgements.
Seriously, this would make US a better more stable place, and it makes sense to me. (If you don't think that's a good idea, please comment and tell me why u feel that way, so I can be humbled in my new idea... or else, I'll think it's perfect)
